General Discussion / Vermont Aviation Day
« on: February 23, 2026, 09:27:32 am »
I’d like to take a moment to thank Chuck Suss for organizing the upcoming Aviation Day. Pulling an event like this together takes time, coordination, and commitment, and that effort deserves recognition.

Aviation Day is an important opportunity for Vermont’s aviation community to come together, connect with legislators, and highlight the value general aviation brings to our state — from economic impact and job creation to safety and education.

If you’re planning to attend, feel free to chime in here. It would be great to hear your thoughts and what you hope to see accomplished.

General Discussion / Landing fees in Vermont
« on: January 25, 2026, 06:30:10 am »
This issue is very recent, and information is still developing. Before anyone reaches out to the state or airport authorities individually, it would be helpful for the Vermont aviation community to collect as much accurate information as possible and coordinate our understanding. Taking a measured, informed approach now gives us the best chance to get ahead of the issue before it gains unnecessary traction or results in unintended consequences.

Have you talked with George Coy at KFSO?  He's usually got a line on things like this.

I'm sure Vermont Flight would be able to help.  The problem isn't finding the instructors, it's finding the plane.

Aviation Events and Gatherings / 2025 Airport Activities
« on: December 27, 2024, 08:52:31 am »
Good morning fellow aviation enthusiasts, I've been toying with the idea of hosting aviation events in 2025 and I have a healthy list, but I wanted to run it by the group.  I think an open house at a new airport once a month would be an excellent way to involve the community.  Nothing too wild, maybe a food truck or two, a few planes on display, maybe some type of STEM display.  We definitely want someone at each airport with a "learn to fly" banner who can answer basic questions.  Again, this is NOT intended to be a large scale expo, we're keeping it simple.  These would be fly-in style events so participation from other airports would be highly encouraged, possibly rewarded.  More on that at a later date.  Another activity on my list is a poker run.  I tried a few years back and after 4 months of planning with the state, it was canceled the week before Halloween.  And my final summer project would be the return of "around the mountains in 80 days".  It was a event the state organized years ago and had great success.
Here is a simple recap, please feel free to add suggestions.

1. Cabin Fever - March 1st
2. Open House
3. Poker Run
4. Around the Mountains In 80 Days

Aviation Events and Gatherings / Re: Oshkosh July 21-27 2025

Every year I get a bunch of emails from student pilots or aviation enthusiasts asking if I know of anyone headed down to Oshkosh that might have an extra seat.  Most are willing to compensate.  If anyone doesn't want to go alone or has a spare seat, reply to this thread.
